Hip Implants – An Overview
Historically hip implants have been a popular orthopedic surgical intervention with an acceptable rate of success. Hip joint replacement commonly follows progressive osteoarthritis, which results in pain with movement of the hip. The hip joint is implicated in walking, running, climbing stairs and even standing for an extended time. While osteoarthritis is the most common cause of degeneration of the hip joint, trauma may also play a role. An aging and active population has created a growing demand for hip implant systems.
